A Survival Guide to South Korean Government Quarantine
COVID-19 has complicated travel, but travel is necessary at times. This post covers everything I wish I’d known before entering hotel quarantine in Seoul, South Korea, in October 2021.
Pre-departure
It’s pretty easy to enter South Korea on a UK passport, even during COVID. As of October 2021, all you need is:
- a valid passport (obviously);
- a negative PCR test within 72 hours of travel; and
- a Korean Electronic Travel Authorisation (K-ETA) or visa
The passport and PCR test are self-explanatory. In principle, the K-ETA is a simple online application, and it costs 10,000 KRW. That’s about £6.20/$US8.36 in October 2021, but you can check the exact conversion rate at XE.com.
K-ETA
COVID has complicated the K-ETA form. You have to enter the address where you’ll be staying in South Korea; however, government quarantine facilities are assigned on arrival, so you won’t know the address beforehand.
